Before I start, I’ve got to apologise for being a mess of a blogger. I know… I haven’t posted anything on here in weeks… soz. Well, let’s get started..
Comme des Garcons’ alumnus and one of the world’s most eccentric menswear characters Junya Watanbe has just released a coat that charges your smartphone! Yes you’ve just read that right, but don’t get too excited because it’s going to set you back a hefty £2,350. No longer excited? I feel you… but let’s talk about it anyway.
Famous for his radical designs, the esoteric designer has taken things to the extreme and fused his already quirky aesthetic with wearable modern tech. Fashionable? Eh… Innovative? Certainly!
The long sleeve coated cotton coat in ‘khaki’ green, which is made in Japan is completely solar powered! With Faux-leather trimmed solar-power panel fixtures at back with smartphone charging wire concealed at interior, the coat has four panels on the back and two on the front with a hidden interior power pack for on-the-go charging. Watanbe tried his best to give the fashionistas out there a tasteful finish through the classic coat sense of style that is shown with a wool trim spread collar, buttoned welt pockets, elbow patches and a coated cotton exterior.
While I absolutely love the idea, I’m just slightly confused… where I live, the sun’s barely out during winter and the coat looks too heavy for summer [when the sun is out and fully beaming]? So… Spring? I don’t know..
I love when fashion and innovation meet! The idea of having a backup power supply for your device is SO appealing – but the idea of it costing £2,000 isn’t…
